So I started a new job today, and one of the first little exercises we did to break the ice was to each come up with a video game that reflected our personalities. I have to say mine was a stroke of genius, and very me - I came up with 'Guitar Hero: 'Up North'.
I folded an A4 piece of paper down the middle so that it somewhat resembled a DVD-style slimcase and crudely doodled a map of England with the top half of the country replaced by a Les Paul wearing a flat cap on the front cover. I also wrote a blurb for the game that described the meat of the gameplay as taking on the role of a rock band trying to make it big by touring the 'grim, rain-lashed, rock meccas of northern England such as Bradford, Grimsby, and Rotherham'.
On the back cover I put some fake review scores, quoting Sheffield's go-to student mag, Exposed, as saying the game was, using classic Yorkshire vernacular, 'rate good', and IGN as saying the game would 'finally put the north/south rivalry to bed by proving that anything from the shandy drinking half of the country just isn't worth it'.
If Activison-Blizzard ever do choose to produce a Guitar Hero game set in the land of Yorkshire pudding and battered Mars bars remember - you saw it here first.
